The ESTVA held a Football Broadcasting Consultative Workshop at Happy Valley Hotel on Wednesday 15-05-24, hosting together industry experts, sports journalists, and key stakeholders to discuss the future of sports broadcasting in Eswatini. The special guests were former Kaizer Chiefs and Manzini Wanderers legend, William “Cool Cat” Shongwe, and South African sports marketing expert Namhla Matandabuzo, who shared their experiences and two-sense on the cause. The event aimed at exploring new opportunities, and elevate the quality of sports coverage on Eswatini TV.
William Shongwe, a revered figure in Eswatini football, emphasized the importance of storytelling in sports journalism. He shared anecdotes from his playing days and highlighted the impact of relatable narratives on viewers. Shongwe’s presence inspired aspiring sports journalists to delve deeper into the game and uncover compelling stories.
Namhla Matandabuzo, a seasoned sports marketing professional, discussed the symbiotic relationship between broadcasting and sponsorship. She emphasized that engaging content attracts sponsors, which, in turn, fuels better production quality. Matandabuzo encouraged collaboration between broadcasters and brands to enhance the overall sports experience for fans.
The workshop participants engaged in lively discussions about transforming television broadcasting in Eswatini. Eswatini TV CEO, Mr. Mlamuli Dlamini, outlined the channel’s ambitious vision for sports broadcasting, “The channel aims to reach new heights by investing in cutting-edge technology, training skilled sports journalists, and expanding its coverage”. Dlamini emphasized the need for innovative storytelling, live match analyses, and behind-the-scenes features to captivate viewers.
The Football Broadcasting Consultative Workshop at Happy Valley Hotel served as a catalyst for developing Eswatini’s sports media landscape. As the industry evolves, collaboration, creativity, and a commitment to excellence will drive Eswatini TV toward its goal of becoming a premier sports broadcaster.
