Mbabane, Eswatini – The “NO TV PERMIT, NO ENTRY – IPHI YAKHO?” initiative was officially launched on the 20th of May 2026 at, marking a significant step towards strengthening compliance and improving the regulation of television imports in the country.
The launch formalizes the implementation of a collaborative effort between Eswatini TV and Eswatini Revenue Service aimed at ensuring that all television sets and related equipment entering the country meet the required regulatory standards. In doing so, the initiative moves from awareness to action reinforcing the requirement that all necessary permits must be secured prior to importation.
At the core of this initiative is a clear directive: without a valid permit, there will be no clearance at the country’s entry ports. This measure is intended to bring consistency, accountability and greater efficiency to the importation process while aligning with existing legal and regulatory frameworks. However, beyond compliance, the initiative also speaks to a broader commitment to strengthening the service that Eswatini TV provides to the nation. As a public broadcaster, its mandate is to inform, educate and entertain emaSwati and a more structured and sustainable system ensures that this service continues to reach audiences across the country.
Speaking on the launch, Eswatini TV Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mlamuli Dlamini emphasized that the initiative supports the broadcaster’s ability to continue delivering on its public service mandate. “Our role as a national broadcaster is to inform, educate and entertain emaSwati and to ensure that the nation remains connected to information and moments that matter. Initiative such as this contribute to a more structured and sustainable environment in which we are able to continue delivering that service effectively,” he said.
The rollout of the initiative will be supported by a series of engagements designed to support and guide stakeholders through the process. These include stakeholder briefings, retailer workshops and on the ground visits aimed at engaging directly with businesses and consumers, answering questions and providing clarity on the process. The initiative also highlights the importance of shared responsibility, encouraging all stakeholders to play an active role in ensuring compliance and in supporting the sustainability of national broadcasting services.
As implementation progresses towards 01st June 2026, members of the public and business community are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the requirements and seek guidance where needed as the country moves towards a more structured and efficient system of managing television imports.
