What is a TV & Decoder import permit?

The TV & Decoder Import Permit is a mandatory authorisation required for all televisions and decoders entering Eswatini. Introduced under the Guidelines for the Importation of Television Gadgets and Associated Television Equipment, 2025 (under section 26). The permit ensures that all imported devices comply with Swaziland Television Act 1983 section 18 before they are cleared by Customs.

How to obtain the permit?

To obtain the permit, importers are required to submit an application to the Eswatini Television Authority (ESTVA) at least 48 hours before the arrival at the port of entry of their shipment. The application must include:

A permit is then issued upon approval, which is verified by ERS Customs officials at the port of entry before clearance is granted.

Importers are advised to ensure that all documentation, including HS codes and product quantities, is accurate to avoid delays. Applications are typically processed within 48 hours for complete submissions. Failure to obtain a valid permit prior to shipment arrival may result in clearance delays or penalties. For assistance, applicants may contact ESTVA through tvlicence@eswatinitv.co.sz or call 76222000/78024545.
